PETALING JAYA: Former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin has questioned if the prosecution in Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s Yayasan Akalbudi case was instructed by their “superiors” to request for the Umno president’s discharge.
Muhyiddin said he was puzzled by the prosecution’s decision to ask the court to grant Zahid a discharge not amounting to acquittal (DNAA) when it had successfully proven a prima facie case against the Bagan Datuk MP.
“Does this mean the prosecution admits that the evidence they furnished in court could not be used? Or was there instruction from their superiors that the case must be dropped?
“If the latter is true, then this would be a very black mark in the country’s justice system. This has never happened in the history of Malaysia,” the Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman said in a Facebook post.

The Bersatu president said Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim must shoulder full responsibility for the “damages that are affecting the justice system”.
He claimed that Anwar and Pakatan Harapan’s slogans of institutional reforms and good governance in the past were merely empty talk.
“The decision to drop the charges against the deputy prime minister (Zahid) will surely affect investors’ confidence in Malaysia’s justice system.
“Not only was an individual facing multiple graft charges appointed to the second highest position in the country, but the charges against him were also dropped. Malaysia has become a rogue state,” he claimed.
“It is time for the people to reevaluate the legitimacy of this unity government, which should uphold the rule of law and the supremacy of the constitution.
