A lorry driver pleaded guilty to sending obscene photos and videos of his ex-wife to her present husband via WhatsApp.

Mohd Suhaimi Yusof was slapped with five charges framed under Section 233(1) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for the improper use of network facilities or network services, which is punishable under Section 233(3) of the same legislation.

He faces a maximum RM50,000 fine, up to a year’s jail, or both, upon conviction, reported Berita Harian.

Fueled by anger

According to the charges, Mohd Suhaimi sent two obscene videos and three obscene images with intent to annoy on March 22, 2023, in Mantin.

He later told the court his actions were done out of anger as he believed his ex-wife had cheated on him.

The 50-year-old, who was unrepresented, declined to mitigate when given the opportunity, adding that he was ready to face the consequences, including jail time.

He also told the court that he has four children, three of whom are still in school but are being cared for by his ex-wife.

Judge offers advice

Before sentencing, Seremban Sessions Court judge Shahrul Rizal Majid implored Mohd Suhaimi to think twice before acting rashly.

My advice is think carefully about the pros and cons first before you do anything next time,” he said.

Mohd Suhaimi was then fined RM6,000 in default of two months’ jail for each charge and ordered to serve a 10-month jail sentence if he fails to pay.
