TAWAU: A man suspected of misappropriating diesel was arrested while filling up the fuel at a petrol station in Jalan Kuhara, around 2pm, on Monday.
The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Tawau Chief District Enforcement Officer Sam Aminudin said two four-wheel drive vehicles were seized.
“However, another suspect managed to escape,” he said, adding the seizure of the vehicles exposed their criminal activities, with the discovery of additional tanks in the vehicles with a 400-litre capacity each.
“When arrested, it is estimated that 356 litres had been filled into the tanks,” he said, Tuesday.
According to Sam, two oil pump nozzles were used to transfer diesel from the gas station to the tanks.
“The seized items, including the diesel, are estimated to be worth RM81,365.40,” he said, adding the case would be investigated under Regulation 18 (1), PPKB (amendment) 2021 of the Supply Control Act 1961. If found guilty, the owner can be fined up to RM1 million or imprisoned for not more than three years, or both.
