Diesel and petrol prices cut across Malaysia, offering relief at pumps until April 29 amid global oil price shifts
PETALING JAYA: Fuel consumers across Malaysia will see significant relief at the pumps from tomorrow, as the Finance Ministry (MOF) announced a substantial reduction in the prices of diesel and petrol.
The price of diesel in Peninsular Malaysia is set to drop by 85 sen, while RON97 petrol and unsubsidised RON95 will see nationwide reductions of 25 sen and 15 sen, respectively.
According to the MOF statement, the revised prices, effective until April 29, are as follows:
- Diesel (Peninsular Malaysia): Reduced to RM5.12 per litre (previously RM5.97).
- RON97: Fixed at RM4.85 per litre (previously RM5.10).
- Unsubsidised RON95: Reduced to RM3.87 per litre (previously RM4.02).
Despite the market adjustments, the government confirmed that subsidised fuel rates will remain unaffected to protect vulnerable groups:
- BUDI95 Programme: Subsidised RON95 petrol remains capped at RM1.99 per litre.
- East Malaysia & Labuan: Diesel prices in Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan stay at RM2.15 per litre.
- SKPS & SKDS: Subsidised petrol and diesel under the Subsidised Petrol Control System and Subsidised Diesel Control System remain at RM2.05 and RM2.15 per litre, respectively.
The ministry attributed the price cuts to a recent dip in global crude oil prices. However, it cautioned that current market rates remain elevated compared to levels seen before the conflict in Iran.
“Although global oil prices have softened, the energy market remains volatile. A full recovery of the global supply chain will take time,” the ministry said. It further highlighted ongoing production disruptions in West Asia and the need for market stabilisation.
