Diesel price rises slightly in Peninsular Malaysia as global oil costs edge up

THE retail price of diesel in Peninsular Malaysia has been increased by three sen to RM2.94 per litre for the period of 7 to 13 August 2025, the Ministry of Finance announced today, citing recent movements in global oil prices.

Despite the slight rise, the Ministry of Finance (MOF) noted that the current rate is still below the RM3.35 per litre when diesel prices were first floated on 10 June 2024.

“The Government will continue to monitor market developments and adjust diesel’s retail price based on global oil market fluctuations, whilst supporting price stability,” the ministry said in a statement issued from Putrajaya.

The latest prices were set under the Automatic Pricing Mechanism (APM) formula used for weekly retail fuel pricing.

According to the ministry, the retail price of RON97 petrol remains at RM3.17 per litre, while RON95 petrol continues to be sold at RM2.05 per litre.

Diesel in Peninsular Malaysia is now priced at RM2.94 per litre, up from RM2.91 per litre. Diesel prices in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan remain unchanged at RM2.15 per litre.

“The Government will continue to monitor global oil price trends and take appropriate measures to safeguard the welfare and well-being of the people,” the statement added. - August 6, 2025
