Differences should never be a reason for division: says MP

MEMBER of parliament for Bandar Tun Razak Datuk Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail has called on all members of society to reject any attempts to sow discord through racial issues.

Speaking at the Chinese New Year Open House event for her constituency at the Kuala Lumpur Swimming Complex, the wife of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasised the importance of addressing differences in opinion and belief with maturity, urging everyone to focus on areas of common ground rather than inflating minor disagreements.

Dr. Wan Azizah underscored that the peace and harmony enjoyed in Malaysia today are a collective responsibility, one that must be preserved for the benefit of future generations.

She reminded the attendees that Malaysia’s longstanding principle of unity in diversity has been integral to maintaining societal harmony, and that the diverse cultures and customs within the nation have not been a source of division, but rather a force that strengthens the bonds between its people.

"Let us remember that our differences should never be a reason for division, but rather a reflection of the strength of our unity," Dr. Wan Azizah remarked.

She stressed that this spirit of unity must continue to be nurtured and preserved, as it forms the foundation of the country’s success and social fabric.

The event, which saw a vibrant gathering of constituents and community leaders, was also an opportunity to foster closer ties and promote a sense of togetherness, aligning with the Malaysia MADANI principles that prioritize the well-being and inclusivity of all people in the society.

Dr. Wan Azizah’s message resonated with attendees as she highlighted that events like the Chinese New Year Open House offer an ideal platform to strengthen friendships and build the spirit of unity and familial bonds, which are vital for a harmonious and prosperous Malaysia. – February 9, 2025
