Digital economic centres can help promote rural products: Teo

MARANG – The digital economic centre is one of the most effective platforms to promote products produced by villagers, especially in rural areas, said Communications and Digital Deputy Minister Teo Nie Ching.

She said the centre would enable rural communities to promote their products to a wider market.

“The digital economic centre can help educate and teach villagers about basic computer skills, e-commerce, thus helping them to do business online. There are classes to teach them how to promote their products.

“This is in line with the ministry’s direction and aspiration to promote the digital economy to get more entrepreneurs involved in online business,” she said after visiting a digital economic centre in Kg Sentul Patah here today.

According to Teo, there are currently 911 digital economic centres in operation nationwide.

“I’m happy that these centres are useful to the villagers...the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission will conduct a study to increase activities at the centres,” she said.

On the recent Terengganu floods, Teo said it had affected four centres and efforts were being made to get them back in operation soon. – Bernama, January 14, 2023
