DILG presents proposed 2027 budget

THE Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) presented before the House of Representatives Thursday a P332.5-billion proposed budget for 2027, with the Philippine National Police (PNP) getting the largest share at P242.5 billion.

Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said the funds would support programs for public safety, emergency response and the building of stronger local government units.

The proposed PNP allocation is 7-percent higher than its budget for the previous year. The funds, Remulla said, will be used to strengthen the police force, intensify police operations and construct new facilities.

The Bureau of Fire Protection, on the other hand, will use its allocation to strengthen fire prevention, suppression and emergency response, while the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology will recruit additional personnel, improve its operational capability, intensify efforts against illegal drugs in jails and construct new jail facilities.

Remulla said the DILG plans to further strengthen the Unified 911 System through the acquisition of additional assets and expansion of access to emergency services. The initiative aims to accommodate more calls, reduce prank calls and improve emergency response times.
