SEMPORNA: Women in Semporna are set to receive expanded opportunities to bolster household incomes through entrepreneurship, skills training, and career development initiatives.
Newly appointed Semporna Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) Women chief Datin Saadiah Abdul Rashad (pic) said women’s empowerment would be among her primary focuses.
Speaking after officiating a Jalur Gemilang vehicle installation programme here, Saadiah said the wing's immediate priority is visiting local communities to hear their needs before conveying them to party leadership.
She stressed that women, especially those in rural areas, require greater access to economic opportunities to raise their families' standard of living.
To achieve this, the division plans to collaborate with relevant government departments and ministries to deliver direct economic benefits through targeted courses and career programmes.
Saadiah noted that ties with the Sabah Ministry of Women, Health and People’s Wellbeing would also be strengthened to extend development initiatives into Semporna’s rural localities.
She emphasised that sustained on-the-ground engagement is essential to ensure planned initiatives address genuine grassroots needs rather than serving as short-term measures.
Saadiah added that the wing aims to act as a bridge connecting grassroots women with the State Government and party leadership to ensure their voices receive consistent attention.
