A tourist from China has taken to popular social media platform Xiaohongshu (XHS) explaining why tourists should avoid travelling to KL when planning for their next vacation.
The post has since caused a stir among netizens, with a majority disagreeing with the OP’s hot take.
Tourist warns others to stay away from KL while on vacation
In the post, the OP began by labelling KL as “dirty” and “chaotic”, accused airport staff of “physical and verbal discrimination”, and claimed that locals were “rude”.
He then went on to list out several reasons why KL must be avoided at all costs by those looking for a place to spend their holidays:
- “KL only has the Petronas Twin Towers, which is good only for photos. Other places are far behind compared to cities in China. As for the cost of living, it’s equal to first-tier cities in China. Which agency claimed it was cheap?”
- “Transportation is extremely inconvenient. There are no sidewalks and apart from taking a taxi, there’s no other way to get around. The metro system is also super inconvenient.”
- “The five-star and four-star hotels are terrible. The worst part is if you check out 10 minutes late, they deduct the entire deposit—which is akin to robbery.”
- “Food delivery here is disappointing. A single order typically costs over 150 RMB (approx. RM91). The portions are decent, but the food usually comes in plastic bags. Even if you request for utensils, sometimes they don’t give any.”
At the end of the post, the OP urged others not to “believe what they read online”, adding that it was a waste of money and time holidaying in KL as “shopping is the only thing to do here.”

In the comment section, a handful of netizens didn’t agree with the OP’s opinion, with some bashing him for his rather crude comments about KL.
‘If you’re this picky, I suggest you don’t travel abroad. After all, there isn’t a country whose infrastructure can compare to ours (China). Also, when going abroad, don’t always use your own mindset and habits to demand others adapt to you. Adapting to local rules and customs will make you happier.’
‘Actually, I think a majority of the locals are really friendly and the food in KL really suits our taste. It’s really cheap and delicious!’
