Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has brushed aside claims of a letter alleging that his deputy, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, was working to oust him from party leadership. He regarded the circulation of the letter as nothing more than a political tactic aimed at sowing discord within the party.

Muhyiddin, who also leads Perikatan Nasional (PN), made it clear that he had not seen the letter and questioned the credibility of those spreading it. To him, such attempts were simply tricks intended to weaken Bersatu at a crucial time when unity should remain the priority. He emphasized that his relationship with Hamzah remained intact and that there was no rift between them.

Addressing the issue during an event at the Karangkraf Complex in Shah Alam, he remarked that accusations made without evidence only served the agenda of those seeking to exploit divisions. He argued that whether an investigation was necessary was secondary, stressing that his focus was on safeguarding the party’s strength and cohesion.

The alleged letter, which had been circulating online, suggested that Hamzah was positioning himself to replace Muhyiddin through the creation of a PN Executive Council. However, Muhyiddin dismissed the narrative as unfounded and unethical, highlighting how such sensational claims distracted from the real work the party needed to accomplish ahead of its upcoming General Assembly.

He warned that enemies exist both outside and inside the party, and that both carried the same risk of undermining Bersatu. What mattered most, he said, was that members remained steadfast against attempts to manipulate or divide them.

Muhyiddin further stressed the moral dimension of the issue, cautioning that spreading unverified stories amounted to slander. He reminded that engaging in actions that humiliate others or damage reputations is considered sinful, and warned that those who participate in such behavior not only harm individuals but also weaken the party as a whole.

The Bersatu president underlined that the upcoming General Assembly would focus on strengthening cooperation and unity within PN, and not on baseless controversies. He criticized those who sensationalize such matters, saying they contribute little to the party’s objectives and serve only to mislead.

In closing, Muhyiddin reiterated that he bore no personal grudge, but urged all quarters to act responsibly. For him, the path forward for Bersatu rested on integrity, solidarity, and resilience, not on rumors designed to destabilize the leadership.
