Disabled man charged with murder of beggar in Shah Alam

A 28-year-old disabled man was charged on Wednesday with the murder of a fellow beggar in Shah Alam last month.

Mohamad Fauzan Adib Abd Aziz, who is also a beggar, was formally charged from his hospital bed at Shah Alam Hospital, where the proceedings were conducted in front of court registrar Mislia Mohd Aris.

No plea was recorded as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

According to prosecutors, the accused is alleged to have murdered 40-year-old R. Arujunan outside a bank in Section 18, Shah Alam, at around 12 noon on 24 April.

The charge falls under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment for up to 40 years upon conviction.

Mohamad Fauzan Adib was admitted to the hospital last Sunday for medical treatment. He was not represented by a lawyer during the proceedings, while Deputy Public Prosecutor Alia Anisa Khairus Masnan appeared for the prosecution.

The case has been set for mention at the Shah Alam Magistrates’ Court on 9 June.

Earlier, Shah Alam district police chief ACP Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said the fatal altercation was believed to have stemmed from a dispute over a spot used for begging. - May 6, 2025
