Disabled man pleads not guilty to possession of child pornography

A DISABLED man appeared in front of the Muar Sessions Court today to charges of possessing over 70 obscene images and videos of children, downloaded from social media.

The accused, 35-year-old Mohd Azmeer Ithnin, who is also mentally challenged, pleaded not guilty to the charges read out by an interpreter before Judge Sayani Mohd Nor.

According to the charge sheet, the restaurant assistant was found in possession of child sexual abuse material, specifically 79 images and one video, on his mobile phone.

The alleged offense took place at his home in Segamat at approximately 5:45pm on March 19th.

The case originated from a report filed on February 6th, when Google alerted the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) in Washington, D.C., about a link used to download child pornography.

NCMEC subsequently referred the matter to the Bukit Aman police on February 13th for further investigation, including identifying the individual using the link.

Police raided the accused's home and discovered the explicit material during a search of his mobile phone.

Additionally, a check on the phone number used by the accused revealed it was registered under a Pakistani national.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Diyana Najihah Muhamed Fauzi handled the prosecution, while the accused was represented by lawyer Rohana Ramli.

Following the not-guilty plea, the prosecution offered bail of RM15,000 with additional conditions. The court granted bail at RM8,000 and ordered the accused to report to the nearest police station.

The case is set for mention on May 28th for document submission, including forensic reports. – March 28, 2025
