‘Discord’ merely personal opinions, not official party stance, Zahid says

UNITED Malays National Organisation (UMNO) President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has downplayed claims of eroding confidence in Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, describing the criticisms raised by state party wings as merely personal opinions rather than an official party stance.

Speaking to reporters after attending the UMNO Education Congress 2026, Ahmad Zahid emphasised that the position of Barisan Nasional in continuing to support the Unity Government in Negeri Sembilan remains a formal and binding party decision.

“On the issue of loss of confidence, that is their opinion, but we are confident that the presence of BN State Assembly members in the Unity Government in Negeri Sembilan is a party decision and it must be respected,” he said.

His remarks came in response to reports that the Youth, Women and Puteri wings of UMNO Negeri Sembilan had expressed a loss of confidence in Aminuddin’s leadership, citing dissatisfaction over his handling of several state-level issues, including matters related to traditional institutions that were said to have affected administrative harmony.

Zahid signalled that the party’s immediate priority is to preserve political stability under the Unity Government framework, in line with decisions agreed at the highest levels of party leadership.

He stressed that all members are expected to respect and adhere to this position, despite differing views at the state level.

The statement underscores ongoing tensions within party ranks, even as national leadership seeks to maintain cohesion and stability within the governing coalition. - May 2, 2026
