In a heart-wrenching incident that has shocked the community, a newborn baby girl was found abandoned near a row of dustbins in Titi Serong, Parit Buntar, on August 14, 2024. The baby, still attached to her umbilical cord, was discovered by a passerby who was struck by the faint sound of a crying infant.

According to Perak police chief Datuk Azizi Mat Aris, the alarming discovery was made around 4:50 p.m. The baby was found nestled in a basin, swaddled in a towel, beside a workshop and trash bins. A group of men, who had been strolling through the area, heard the faint cries and investigated, leading them to the distressing scene.

Upon finding the baby, the men quickly transported her to the local Welfare Department. An officer from the department then reported the incident to the Tanjung Piandang police station. Police Chief Datuk Azizi Mat Aris addressed the media at a press conference later that day, revealing that the infant was in a fragile state when discovered.

The initial assessment showed that the newborn weighed just 2.1 kilograms and had several small bite marks on her body, which appeared to be the result of insect activity. Authorities are currently reviewing footage from nearby CCTV cameras in hopes of identifying any clues that might lead to the baby's parents or guardians.

The case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code, which pertains to the concealment of birth with the intention of abandoning the child. This section addresses the serious issue of infants being abandoned in unsafe conditions, highlighting the urgency of locating the responsible parties and ensuring they are held accountable.

The community is deeply shaken by the incident, with many expressing concern over the well-being of the abandoned baby and questioning how such a situation could occur. The authorities are appealing to the public for any information that might assist in their investigation, urging anyone with relevant details to come forward.

This distressing event underscores the ongoing issue of child abandonment and the need for increased support systems to prevent such tragedies. The baby, now in the care of the authorities, is receiving medical attention and support, with hopes for a swift recovery and eventual placement in a safe and loving environment.

As the investigation unfolds, the Perak police continue to gather evidence and piece together the circumstances leading to the abandonment. The community remains hopeful that justice will be served and that measures will be taken to address the root causes of such incidents.
