While many disagreed with the method, the video also caught the attention of Muslim preacher Nasrullah, who also weighed in with his views in the comment section.

In his response, he quickly pointed out that sahur is actually a sunnah practice, meaning it’s recommended but not obligatory, so there’s no need to wake people up in such a way.

“The ruling on sahur is sunnah; there’s no need to wake someone up like this, especially nowadays when everyone has their own alarm clock or phone,” he wrote.

He also reminded viewers that disturbing neighbours is considered haram, meaning it’s forbidden in Islam.

“If this is done in a predominantly Muslim area and there’s mutual agreement among neighbours through discussion, that’s a different matter. But doing it just because it’s a tradition from Indonesia is wrong, both legally and socially.”

“No one needs a wake-up call from someone they don’t even live with.”

“It was different in the past, but even then, it didn’t involve drums or singing. At most, the azan 30 minutes before subuh prayer was enough. Now people who work night shifts and just got home, or babies who are sleeping, are being disturbed by the drums and noise.”

“Behaving like this shows a complete lack of civility and, frankly, low intelligence. It damages the reputation of Islam. If you want to follow the sunnah, you should go to the mosque instead.”
