The dividends for Akaun Persaraan, Akaun Sejahtera, and Akaun Fleksibel will remain the same across all three accounts for now, said the Employees Provident Fund (EPF). This comes following its recent announcement of the account restructuring exercise that is set to take effect come 11 May 2024.
Chief executive officer of EPF, Ahmad Zulqarnain Onn noted, however, that this arrangement could potentially change in the future, with the dividend for Akaun Fleksibel differing from the other two accounts. He explained that this is due to the nature of liquid assets, which typically do not offer high interest rates or dividend.

Rest assured that the dividend for Account 3 (Flexible Account) will be the same as Account 1 (Retirement Account) and Account 2 (Wellbeing Account).

Aside from that, Ahmad Zulqarnain also reassured that the introduction of the new Akaun Fleksibel will not have an impact on the provident fund’s portfolio. This is despite the EPF’s estimation that approximately RM4 billion to RM5 billion will be withdrawn annually via the account.
“The current scenario is much different from during the pandemic and our portfolio is now much bigger. Hence, the impact of withdrawals through the new account is expected to be muted,” said Ahmad Zulqarnain. For context, a total of RM145 billion was withdrawn by members during the Covid-19 pandemic via the various special EPF withdrawal facilities introduced back then.

For context, the EPF officially announced the account restructuring exercise for its members yesterday, where those aged 55 and below will soon have three accounts (Akaun Persaraan, Akaun Sejahtera, and Akaun Fleksibel) instead of two accounts (Akaun 1 and Akaun 2). While Akaun Persaraan and Akaun Sejahtera will both maintain the purpose of Akaun 1 and Akaun 2, Akaun Fleksibel will serve as an account where members are allowed to withdraw funds at any time for any purposes. They are, however, encouraged to do so only for emergencies and immediate needs.
