As many as 75 percent of reported sexual crime victims each year are individuals under the age of 18. The Minister of Home Affairs, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, stated that the data shows a significant increase in cases of sexual crimes against teenagers and children nationwide, which has raised concerns among the authorities. (75 peratus mangsa jenayah seksual bawah umur - Saifuddin - Sinar Harian) According to him, the reported figure only reflects cases that have been brought to the authorities' attention, suggesting that many more incidents likely go unreported.

Recently, there was a case of a student at a school in Baling has reported a rape incident that she claims occurred consensually. The incident is believed to have taken place in multiple locations, including an empty classroom in the evening and an oil palm plantation. According to Kedah Police Chief Datuk Adzli Abu Shah, the victim reportedly engaged in the act with four different suspects at separate times. Besides, one of the most pressing issues we face today is the alarming spread of pornography, an epidemic that is rapidly infiltrating our society and affecting individuals of all ages. The authorities must take immediate and decisive action to confront the alarming rise in easily accessible pornographic materials, which currently flourish without any oversight or regulation. This unchecked proliferation poses serious risks to the fabric of our society and cannot be ignored. It is imperative that we urgently address this issue to protect our community from the harmful impacts of unrestricted pornography.

The pornography industry is vast and continuously growing. In the United States, a new pornographic video is produced every 39 minutes. Worldwide, 28,258 internet users view pornography every second, and 372 users are searching for adult-oriented material at that very moment. If we ourself do not teach our kids about sex, pornography will take on that role. We should not allow pornography to be the source of sexual education for our children.

Most Muslims acquire their understanding of sex from their ustaz, particularly through the topic of “mandi junub.” This essential practice involves performing the ritual bath (ghusl) following sexual intercourse or the intimate relations between a husband and wife. This instruction not only highlights the significance of sexual relations within marriage but also emphasizes the importance of maintaining spiritual and physical purity in these moments of intimacy. Sex education remains a sensitive topic, yet it is essential for the well-being of our children. Who should be responsible for providing this crucial knowledge? Is it the parents, teachers, religious leaders, or peers? It is vital that we take an active role in ensuring our children receive accurate and comprehensive sex education to empower them with the understanding they need to make informed choices.
