Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged Malaysians to remain cautious against attempts by certain groups seeking to exploit sensitive issues for the purpose of creating division and weakening national unity. Speaking at a programme held at Multimedia University in Cyberjaya, he stressed that Malaysia is a nation governed by clear laws and that no individual would be shielded from accountability if found guilty of misconduct.

As an example, he referred to the controversy surrounding the Jalur Gemilang, pointing out that appropriate legal action would be taken against those proven to have committed wrongdoing. He explained that the establishment of the Ministry of National Unity reflected the government’s belief that political stability and social cohesion were fundamental for the country’s progress. Drawing on global lessons, he noted that no nation could thrive if hatred rooted in race or religion was allowed to spread unchecked.

Anwar’s remarks were made in response to a question from a student regarding government efforts to strengthen the national unity agenda and tackle racism at its roots. He commended the awareness shown by the younger generation, praising the commitment of students to the principles of solidarity and inclusiveness. Their growing appreciation of unity, he observed, provided a sense of hope that Malaysia could be rebuilt on stronger foundations, enabling it to achieve greater progress.

At the same time, the Prime Minister warned that provocations aimed at creating distrust and division would continue to surface, and urged Malaysians not to fall prey to such tactics. He reminded the audience that safeguarding harmony required constant vigilance and a collective responsibility to reject narratives designed to weaken the nation.

Anwar also addressed the case of Form One student Zara Qairina Mahathir, whose death had been manipulated by certain groups to suggest government negligence. He reaffirmed that any incident involving criminal elements such as murder or bullying would be investigated thoroughly and prosecuted, regardless of the identity of those involved. The principle, he underlined, was that guilt would bring punishment without exception.

He reiterated that the government had no reason to conceal the truth in such matters, emphasizing that accountability and justice must remain consistent and impartial. By upholding these principles, he expressed confidence that Malaysia could resist divisive attempts and continue to nurture a future built on unity, mutual respect, and shared aspirations.
