For those praying on the Emergency Lane of Karak Highway, Pray Safely and Considerately: A Lesson in Faith and Responsibility

In recent news, a scene on the Karak Highway has sparked a conversation about the intersection of religious devotion, safety, and public etiquette. Images circulated on social media showed individuals performing their prayers on the emergency lane, raising concerns about safety and the appropriateness of the location. The emergency lane is meant for emergencies, not for prayer gatherings

While the commitment to prayer is admirable, it is crucial to remember the teachings of Islam that prioritise safety, consideration for others, and respect for public spaces. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) emphasised the importance of preserving life and avoiding harm, stating that there should be neither harming nor reciprocating harm.

This teaching extends to actions that could endanger oneself or others, such as praying in unsafe locations like busy highways. Although there was no fast hughways during the time of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) I am sure that he would not encourage anyone to endanger lives by praying on such roads.

Islam also teaches believers to be considerate of others. This teaching encourages Muslims to consider the well-being and comfort of others, including when choosing where to pray.

Furthermore, Islam emphasises respect for public property and spaces. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should not harm his neighbour." This teaching reminds us to use public spaces responsibly and avoid activities that could disrupt or endanger others.

In light of these teachings, it is important to find a safe and suitable place for prayer, away from busy traffic and potential hazards. While the act of prayer is a personal and sacred practice, it should not compromise the safety or well-being of oneself or others.

Let us remember that there is a time and place for everything, including prayer. By practicing our faith with mindfulness and consideration for others, we can uphold the values of Islam and contribute to a safer and more harmonious society.
