According to police, a doctor in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, was detained after he was discovered reportedly raping a lady while performing a cesarean section on her.
Giovanni Quintella Bezerra, 32, was detained early on July 11 in Rio de Janeiro at the Women’s Hospital in Sao Joao de Meriti.
An anesthesiologist was detained for allegedly rap*ng a lady at the Heloneida Studart Women’s Hospital in Vilar dos Teles, So Joo de Meriti, a municipality in Baixada Fluminense, when she was unconscious during a cesarean section.
When hospital staff began to question the number of sedatives given to pregnant patients by Bezerra, they set up a device to film Giovanni Quintella Bezerra, 31, in the operating room. The medical staff moved the delivery room so that they could record his actions while he underwent surgery.
Bezerra had performed two further procedures in unrecorded rooms before hospital staff caught him in the act and denounced him.
In the ten-minute clip, Bezerra unzips his pants, removes his penis, and inserts it into the mouth of the unconscious woman. To cover up the evidence of his crime, he then wipes the victim’s lips with a tissue.
The woman claimed she was unable to recall every detail, but she did remember him speaking in her ear and asking whether she was “okay”.
Speaking on behalf of the Brazilian Society of Anesthesiology, Ana Cristina Pinho said the Rio de Janeiro doctor who was charged with rap*ng a woman while she was giving birth gave her more anaesthesia than was recommended, endangering both the lady’s life and the unborn child.
The mother runs the danger of bronchoaspiration of stomach contents if she is under further sedation without airway protection. Consequently, when employed in obstetrics, sedation is synonymous with little to no application.
She said, “All sedatives given to the mother pass through the placenta to the baby, so there is a possibility that the baby will be born, as we call it, “depressed,” with harm to the respiratory system.
