  • Resident doctors in England are scheduled to begin a six-day walkout on Tuesday, immediately following the Easter weekend.
  • The industrial action proceeds after crucial talks failed to resolve a dispute over pay and working conditions.
  • The Department of Health and Social Care has also withdrawn an offer of 1,000 additional training places, stating it is no longer “financially or operationally” possible.
  • The government expressed disappointment with the strikes, claiming it had offered a “generous deal” that would have made resident doctors 35.2 per cent better off.
  • The British Medical Association (BMA) said the government's offer “falls short” but it remains open to further negotiations for a “genuinely credible offer”.
