More than a decade after the 1MDB scandal erupted, Malaysians are still waiting for a definitive answer to one burning question: Where is Jho Low? While former prime minister Dato' Seri Najib Razak is behind bars, his elusive and perceived “co-mastermind” and “partner-in-crime” in the multibillion-dollar theft - Low Taek Jho - remains at large, allegedly enjoying a life of luxury in Shanghai’s elite Green Hills estate.

On July 19, 2025, investigative journalists Bradley Hope and Tom Wright - who broke the original 1MDB scandal in The Wall Street Journal - revealed that Low is living under the alias “Constantinos Achilles Veis” using a forged Australian passport.

Their live stream, Finding Jho Low, claimed he now resides in Green Hills, a posh, three-lined gated community that is home to foreign elites and tycoons. Yet, Malaysia’s Home Minister Dato' Seri Saifuddin Nasution quickly dismissed the report, saying it lacked “credible proof.”

But here lies the problem: what credible proof does the government actually need if it isn’t willing to act on compelling leads? What Malaysians want is action, not denials.

It’s time the government stops playing diplomatic games and instead initiates a silent strike strategy to bring Jho Low back - despite his financial means to potentially buy his way out of justice.

Some Suggestions to Consider:

1. Discreet Collaboration: Work silently with trusted international whistleblowers and private investigators on a “no catch, no pay” basis to verify Low’s movements and identity.

2. Identify and Locate: Pinpoint his exact address with credible intelligence - no media leaks, no press briefings.

3. Engage with Host Governments: Quietly engage with the Chinese government or other relevant authorities once his presence is confirmed.

4. Extradite Without Noise: No grandstanding. No warnings. Just move swiftly and decisively to extradite Low before he vanishes again.

Announcing every step or prematurely disclosing leads only alerts the fugitive, sabotaging years of intelligence work. The only acceptable outcome now is Jho Low being marched into a Malaysian courtroom.

Low is not just a runaway multibillion-dollar fraudster; he is a symbol of impunity. The longer he roams free, the more it fuels public cynicism about our justice system. Malaysia cannot claim moral leadership or anti-corruption credentials while the biggest thief of public funds continues to live lavishly in plain sight. The Malaysian government would earn much respect from the Chinese authorities if it firmly insisted on Jho Low’s extradition, despite the perception that he is being protected by the host country.

The government must abandon its passive posture and embrace a targeted, covert, and professionally coordinated plan. Malaysians do not want excuses; they want justice. The billion-ringgit question remains: if a journalist can find Jho Low, why can’t an entire government?

Until then, every press conference denying his location is just another reminder that justice delayed is justice denied.
