Dog and cat rescued from 98F heat after being left in back of truck

A dog and cat that were stuck inside a sweltering truck were saved by police officers as outside temperatures reached 98F.

Footage shared by the Boise Police Department shows officers opening the moving truck to find the trapped pets, who were both showing signs of dehydration and stress. The force had received calls from residents reporting the trapped pets.

After the officer pulled open the door to the dog’s cage, he and a resident gave the canine a large glass of water. The officer also removed the cat from the truck to get some air.

The force said that evidence indicates that the animals were stuck in the truck for at least 20 minutes before officers arrived.

Officers apprehended the two suspects as they were returning to their truck. They have been charged with two misdemeanour counts of carrying animals in a cruel manner.
