It’s four years since Sabahan Abby (not real name) was put behind bars at Kota Kinabalu Women’s Prison for drug trafficking.
The 21-year-old was sentenced under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which entails the death penalty or life in jail.
Abby described her time in jail as an experience that gave her priceless wisdom and meaning. She now pursues her education in jail, something which she was unable to accomplish outside of prison owing to documentation concerns.
