DOJ files grave threats complaint vs Sara Duterte

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Justice (DOJ) filed a criminal case against Vice President Sara Duterte before a local court stemming from alleged threats she made against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and former Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez.

DOJ spokesman Polo Martinez said the complaint was filed at around 1:30 p.m. at the Office of the Clerk of Court of the Quezon City Regional Trial Court.

Martinez said the complaint was the same previously investigated and handled by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

The filing marks a significant new phase in the controversy that erupted after Duterte made a series of explosive remarks in a November 2024 online press conference, saying she had arranged for someone to kill Marcos, the first lady and Romualdez if she herself were killed.

Duterte is facing an impeachment trial for alleged betrayal of public trust, among others, that includes misuse of intelligence funds under the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and Department of Education when she was its secretary.

The Manila Times has reached out to the vice president for comment.
