The Department of Justice (DOJ) has sent a letter to lawyer Jimmy Bondoc seeking clarification on his public statements regarding the service of an arrest warrant on Sen. Ronald de la Rosa, Justice Secretary Fredderick Vida said on Wednesday.
Vida confirmed during a press briefing that the letter had been delivered and received by Bondoc’s office earlier in the day.
He said the DOJ is requesting clarification and additional information in relation to Bondoc’s earlier public pronouncements concerning the implementation of the warrant.
“The letter simply seeks clarification and assistance in light of statements he publicly made regarding the service of an arrest warrant upon his client, Senator De la Rosa,” Vida said.
The justice secretary said the department’s request is aimed at ensuring the lawful and orderly implementation of legal processes.
Given Bondoc’s public statements, Vida said the DOJ deemed it appropriate to formally seek information that could help authorities in carrying out judicial and law enforcement procedures properly.
The DOJ did not provide further details on Bondoc’s statements or the specific context of the request, citing the sensitivity of ongoing legal processes.
Authorities have not indicated whether the matter forms part of a separate proceeding or is connected to the wider investigation into the Senate incident involving the attempted service of an arrest warrant on De la Rosa.
