DOJ seeks P46.44B for 2027

THE Department of Justice (DOJ) has asked the House of Representatives for a P46.44-billion budget for 2027, slightly higher than its P45.5-billion allocation in 2026.

Justice Undersecretary Ian Norman Dato said the increase is due to adjustments in employee salaries and benefits packages.

“Last year’s budget stood at P45.5 billion, so the slight increase is mainly attributable to rising compensation costs for our personnel. There is really only a marginal uptick in the department’s overall budget,” Dato said, noting a detailed breakdown of the DOJ’s proposed expenses would be made public soon.

“In fact, preparations and discussions began as early as March. It undergoes a rigorous process, and we only present it when called upon by the House or the Senate,” he said.

Dato noted that all line items and programs in the budget were carefully aligned with the department’s strategic plans and priorities for the fiscal year.
