THE Department of Justice–Office of Cybercrime (DOJ-OOC) and TikTok have strengthened coordination on cybercrime investigations and online safety efforts following a meeting aimed at improving the processing of law enforcement requests involving the platform.
The DOJ-OOC said it met with TikTok Legal Policy Operations Officer Yusuke Mori to discuss the legal and operational procedures governing government requests for assistance, including the preservation of electronic data, requests for information and content removal.
Both sides discussed the scope, requirements and limitations of each process to ensure that requests from authorities are properly handled and aligned with applicable legal procedures.
The DOJ-OOC, which serves as the country’s central authority for international cooperation on cybercrime matters and formulates guidelines for cybercrime investigations, said the engagement was intended to improve coordination between government agencies and digital platforms.
Officials also explored possible areas of collaboration, including public awareness campaigns, digital safety programs, and joint efforts to address cybercrime and other emerging online threats.
The DOJ-OOC said closer engagement with technology companies has become increasingly important as cyberthreats continue to evolve in complexity and scale.
It added that stronger partnerships with online platforms would help support the preservation of electronic evidence, facilitate international cooperation, protect internet users, and strengthen cybercrime investigations while ensuring that legal safeguards are observed.
