PETALING JAYA: Domino’s Pizza Malaysia has lodged a police report after a message apparently mocking Islam was automatically printed on a customer’s receipt.
In a statement, its spokesperson said the pizza chain had also taken “appropriate” action against both the customer and the staff member involved.
“We are deeply disappointed that a customer made a hurtful and disrespectful comment when placing their order,” it said.
“We are also disappointed that one of our team members thought it was appropriate to share this online, including the customer’s personal information.”

Read more The controversy started yesterday after a picture of the receipt from a Domino’s Pizza outlet in Penang went viral on social media.
The message came from a customer’s entry in the “delivery instructions” section of the online order, according to a source close to the matter.
Bayan Lepas assemblyman Azrul Mahathir Aziz said he was informed of the matter after meeting with the pizza chain’s northern region management and branch supervisor in Sungai Ara last night.
He said many people, including himself, had thought the receipt was generated by the cashier.
“In reality, the receipt that went viral was from an online order and the remarks section was misused by the provocateur,” he said in a Facebook post.
Azrul said he hopes the person behind the act will be arrested soon.
“The police have already launched an investigation, and I ask the public to remain calm and not be swayed by this provocation. Let’s leave it to the authorities (to handle),” he added.
Penang police have confirmed receiving a report on an act of provocation insulting Islam.
Southwest police chief Kamarul Rizal Jenal said the case is being investigated under Section 298 of the Penal Code for words uttered with deliberate intent to wound religious feelings, and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act for insulting words with intent to provoke a breach of the peace.
