Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has reminded everyone not to take matters into their own hands when it comes to offences involving the Jalur Gemilang.

He stressed that anything related to investigations, charges, or court rulings should be left to the proper authorities. This came after the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) issued a reminder on Friday (Aug 15).

Don’t act as the police, lawyers and judge (as) it’s wrong, leave it to the police to investigate, leave it to the AGC to prosecute and leave it to the courts to make a decision,” Fahmi said during the launch of the National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang Flag 2025 campaign for KL and Putrajaya at IPG Kampus Bahasa Melayu on Saturday (Aug 16).

Fahmi mentioned that some individuals were called in by the police after a rally aimed at “teaching” certain parties a lesson, but he made it clear that any further action is up to the authorities.

He also encouraged Malaysians to help out in respectful ways when it comes to the Jalur Gemilang.

“As Malaysians, we can also play our part. If we see a Jalur Gemilang that has fallen, we should raise it back up. If it has faded, we replace it with a new one. If it’s improperly flown, we correct it with our own hands.”

And finally, he urged everyone to stay civil and patriotic. “Let’s not sneer, curse, or act in an uncivilised manner as we need to show our patriotic spirit during the national month and at the same time, we need to remind one another.”
