If your MyKad malfunctions or the system doesn’t work when you’re claiming the RON95 subsidy starting at the end of this month, there’s no need to worry.

Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali confirmed that MyKad is not the only mechanism for claiming the subsidy.

He said that, among other options, applications provided by oil companies, such as Setel and the Shell App, can also be used by the public to access the subsidy more easily and quickly.

“Consumers can also use payment methods at terminals outside or inside petrol stations to purchase subsidised petrol. So, don’t worry—don’t assume that the physical MyKad is the only method.”

“Although everything will be based on the qualifications linked to the MyKad, the purchase will not depend on just one method,” Armizan told reporters today (21 September).

Armizan also highlighted that the government has ensured careful preparations have been made since the beginning of the year for the smooth implementation of the targeted RON95 petrol subsidy, which will be announced by the Ministry of Finance in the near future.

“We will ensure that this step goes smoothly and will not burden the people, let alone cause accusations that people will have to queue up for a long time.”

What do you think of the variety of mechanisms?
