Did you know that some Malay MPs or politicians are afraid to visit non-Malay places of worship?
Syerleena Abdul Rashid,Member of Parliament for Bukit Bendera (Penang), is not afraid of others' comments.
Syerleena Abdul Rashid is a Malaysian politician who has served as the Member of Parliament for Bukit Bendera since November 2022. She served as a Member of the Penang State Legislative Assembly for Seri Delima from May 2018 to August 2023 and as a Member of Parliament. Her philosophy is: “Together, we shape policies and the Malaysia we envision. Diversity: The Heart of My Progressive Politics.”
In Penang, she added: “Our diversity is not just something we mention during speeches. It is something we live every day. We visit each other. We celebrate with each other. We respect each other’s traditions. And most importantly, we show up for one another.”
That is the Malaysia I believe in, she said categorically.
“A Malaysia where being proud of who we are does not mean looking down on others. A Malaysia where respect is not weakness. A Malaysia where leaders do not only serve people who look, pray or live like them – but everyone. As part of my support, I was also pleased to contribute RM5,000 to Kahlee Ama Temple to assist with their ongoing community and temple activities.”
Syerleena also expressed: “My heartfelt thanks to the temple committee, devotees, volunteers and everyone who welcomed me so warmly. Your kindness, hospitality and smiles truly reflect the beauty of our shared community.”
