UMNO Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh criticised Perak MCA for raising concerns about the potential expansion of the alcohol sale ban, already enforced in Manjoi, to other Perak districts with a “100% Muslim” population.
Sinar Harian reported that Akmal told the party not to be foolish and pointed out that the restrictions, like the ones in the Manjoi area, were placed in areas with mostly Muslim residents.
“If they want to sell, that’s their right, but not in places where the majority are Muslims“
Akmal explained that non-Muslim communities are allowed to sell alcohol in the country, but not in areas where Muslims make up the majority.
In a Facebook post, he wrote,
“If you want to buy or sell alcohol, that’s your right, but not in places where the majority are Muslims. And I don’t think there’s anything saying that non-Muslims are banned from drinking or buying alcohol, but don’t sell it in areas with a majority Muslim population.”
He also said he’s ready to face those involved if they still don’t get why the restriction was put in place.
“If you don’t understand, please set a time and place, we’ll come and explain face-to-face,” he said.

They denied it despite the policy being confirmed
On January 18, reports said MBI planned to expand the alcohol sales ban to areas with a majority Muslim population, just like the policy already in place in Manjoi.
Ipoh Mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin mentioned that MBI had approved a plan to study any requests from majority Muslim residents before enforcing the ban.
But MCA Perak’s Info Chief, Chung Kok Heung, questioned why DAP and PKR leaders were denying it when the Mayor had already confirmed the policy.
