KUALA LUMPUR – Former Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli has been asked to give full cooperation to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) regarding the investigation into a mega deal estimated to be worth RM1.1 billion, and to stop confusing the public.
Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) vice-president Datuk Seri R. Ramanan said, when asked, that Rafizi needs to explain the allegations regarding the awarding of a contract to his acquaintance that have been raised, instead of diverting the issue with statements that could cause confusion.
He said this when met by the media after officiating the Food Basket Contribution Programme and Distribution of Bubur Lambuk by the Department of Skills Development (JPK) of the Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA) 2026 at Dewan MPKS Saujana Utama in Sungai Buloh yesterday.
“The issue raised is not about him taking the RM1.1 billion amount. What is being questioned is whether the contract was given to his acquaintance. That is what needs to be answered with facts,” he said.
Ramanan stressed that Rafizi must give full cooperation to MACC and not drag the public into allegations or slander that are not correct.
“Don’t go there, look for other matters, ‘fry it up’ and ‘cook it up’, then throw accusations at the government. Don’t do that and don’t confuse the people. Don’t think you can spread slander against the President (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) or the party (PKR). We also have our limits of patience,” he stressed.
Previously, the media reported that Rafizi was linked to a mega deal by the Ministry of Economy worth RM1.1 billion between the Malaysian government and a foreign company. MACC was also reported to have recorded the statement of a former Madani Government minister regarding the investigation.
MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki yesterday confirmed that 12 individuals, including a ministry secretary-general and representatives from the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), had been called to give statements. However, as of March 5, the Pandan Member of Parliament was reported to have not yet given his statement.
Meanwhile, Ramanan also criticised Rafizi’s actions, which were seen as frequently criticising the government, especially Anwar.
“Recently, it has become a drama. Everything the government does is considered wrong, while everything he does is considered right. He was also the Economy Minister before this. So the people have the right to assess what his actual achievements are,” he said. - March 8, 2025
