TAMPARULI: Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) Secretary General Dr Gaim James Lunkapis hopes the “Jambatan Sungai Damit Bengkok” (crooked bridge) will not be demolished and instead be turned into a new tourism product for the district.

According to him, there were rumours of late that the crooked bridge (pic) would be demolished.

“There is nothing wrong with building a new bridge that is safer, but I am of the opinion that the existing crooked bridge which has its own charm and uniqueness should be maintained.

“This district is famous for its tourist attractions such as the Rumah Terbalik (Upside Down House) in Tamparuli and also paragliding activities, so I believe the uniqueness of the Sungai Damit crooked bridge can add value to tourist attractions in Tuaran,” he said in a statement, Monday.

According to initial expectations, the bridge will benefit about 7,000 villagers who live there.

They include residents of Kg Sawah, Kg Sungai Damit, Kg Bintangor, Kg Pitas, Kg Bantayan, Kg Damat and Kg Bontoi.
