When driving along certain roads in Kuala Lumpur, you would notice yellow lanes in some areas like Jalan Genting Klang and Jalan Ampang. Please note that the lanes are meant for buses, public transport used by the majority of the city folks.
So if you are driving a car, don't try to get into the yellow lanes. But some of us do that and it is very disturbing, very annoying. This always happen during the rush hours. By doing that the motorists are actually ‘destroying’ the purpose of providing the yellow lanes.
The lanes, painted with thick yellow lines on the left side of the road, are meant to ensure the smooth movements of the buses to avoid them being caught in the heavy traffic jam along with other vehicles. This in turn will help the commuters to reach their destinations in time.
But if you get into the lanes and block the movement of the buses, then it is just the same like not having the yellow lanes. it only defeat the purpose of having the special express lanes.
We should be aware buses are commonly used because the fare is relatively cheaper compared to other public transports. But commuters are also not happy since the travel time is very unpredictable. All because buses are always stuck in the heavy city traffic jam.
It is due to that yellow lanes are introduced to help ease the congestion. As buses are used by many people, it is only appropriate that buses move smoothly and people are happy. We have a duty to help make sure this happen. Don't ‘rob’ the yellow lanes!
Due to the congestion in the city, people are encouraged to use public transports. But this can only be achieved if the public transport system is efficient. The yellow lanes is one of the steps taken towards achieving this efficiency.
So the next time you notice the yellow lanes, please have some respects. Leave it just for buses. Have some discipline and high level of civic consciousness. Help to upgrade the efficiency level of our public transport, for the people for the nation.
