Every Ramadan, it is reported that food waste skyrockets in Malaysia, with bazaars throwing away a whopping 53 tons of food a day in 2023.

Especially considering the fact that Ramadan is meant for the people to experience the hunger those living in poverty have to endure, wouldn’t it be better to donate food rather than throw it away and waste it?

The Fakta Bukan Auta Twitter page recently shared 3 homeless shelters where Malaysians can donate food this Ramadan, as initiated by the Kuala Lumpur City Council (DBKL).

They wrote, “Did you know that if you want to donate food to the homeless in KL this Ramadan, you can donate to these 3 locations: Anjung Kembara at the Kuala Lumpur Transit Centre for the Homeless, Medan Tuanku Homeless Service Centre and Chow Kit Community Learning Centre.

Many in KL might wonder why they should donate to these 3 places instead of wherever they please. Well, here’s why!

These locations have people in charge who will ensure the food donated is safe to eat before distributing it among the homeless.

“When there is an integrated mobilization like this, it can avoid wastage and prevent the area from becoming dirty. And the most important thing here is the food quality initiative,”

“Even if the person eating the food is homeless, the food must be clean and healthy. Happy Ramadan.”

We genuinely hope that this Ramadan, food wastage will reduce significantly and that people perform more charitable acts such as donating food to those.
