In the way I see it, World War 3 can only be prevented if 1) Donald Trump is assassinated 2) Iran is conquered or 3) Trump apologises.
Other than these three possibilities, I don’t see how else we can prevent the horsemen of the apocalypse from reaching us in the foreseeable future.
Trump has already faced assassination attempts. If another attempt is made on his life soon and it succeeds, then there is a chance that World War 3 might be prevented. At this stage, there is still a possibility that Trump’s successor might choose to de-escalate the war with Iran, although there is no certainty even in this.
Other than that, if Iran is decisively conquered in the very near future, before it wreaks havoc in its neighbouring countries and drags the entire Middle East into war, World War 3 can also be prevented. The trouble is that Iran is a functioning country, meaning that it has functional and working systems and institutions, which will keep the country operational and fighting against its opponents, even if a large number of its population are killed or a large swath of its territory is conquered.
I also think that the war in Iran, and the impending world war, can also be ended and prevented if Trump apologises and admits that he is wrong, but I think it will be easier to assassinate Trump or invade Iran than to expect Trump to apologise.
There is a story in the Mahabharata that says that although the Pandavas had the right to reclaim their throne after they returned from exile, they decided to renounce their claim and only asked for five villages to be made theirs, so that their quarrel with their cousins, the Kauravas, could be ended.
The head of the Kauravas, Duryodhana, however, would infamously exclaim that not only would he not give the Pandavas five villages, he would not even give them enough land to pin five needles.
Trump strikes me as a Duryodhana-like figure.
Rather than back down a millimeter for what is good, right and reasonable , he would rather watch the entire world burn, just so that he won't have to feel small.
So in conclusion, for now, I don’t see how World War 3 can be prevented.
