My dad has been having problems with my mum for some time. However, neither one of them is able to discuss rationally nor iron out all their grievances. We, their daughters tolerated, endured while we kept our fingers crossed, hoping that one day, their marital problems will be solved and we would be a happy family. But it did not happen.
In the eyes of the world, dad is a successful man. After all, he is a well-known figure. Then dad decided to purchase a property, close to his work place. He reasoned that it would be better, given the nature of his job. As he could afford it, mum complied. Mum and I even helped to furnish the place. Off and on, mum and I would stay the weekends with dad. I thought this would be a new beginning for all of us as a family. However, after a short time, this arrangement somehow did not work out. So, mum and I shifted back to our own house in the suburbs. Dad would come back at weekends to have dinner with us as a family. This arrangement went on for some time but our relationships, as spouse or father and daughter did not improve.
Things worsened and there were tell-tale signs of a third party when we dropped by at dad’s place in the heart of the city. Mum actually received information from a few people regarding dad’s extra-marital affairs. Although it was heartbreaking, we tried to brush those reports aside, still hoping for dad to come to his senses and problems to be resolved.
Recently, dad came home as usual during the weekend. It was the last straw that broke the camel’s back. Dad brought a lady home. And we are simply in disbelief! Dad’s sweet young thing was a lady younger than me, his daughter! How can that be?
Dad, I know that you have been having various unresolved problems with us. But two wrongs will never make it right for you or us. Please think again. Please be rational and brave to make things right with mum and us, your daughters. I know you deserve to be happy and we deserve to have a happy family too. Can you please pause and not be trapped by a third party? I am sure there will be forgiveness and love again.
