Double murder: Jealousy suspected as motive behind brutal stabbings of woman and male friend

POLICE have confirmed that jealousy was the likely motive behind the brutal killing of a woman and a man in Taman Nona, Guar Chempedak, last Thursday, after both victims were found with a total of 28 stab and slash wounds.

Kedah Deputy Police Chief, Deputy Commissioner Baderulhisham Baharudin, revealed that the 28-year-old woman had 20 stab and slash wounds to her chest, neck, arms and legs, while the 30-year-old man had eight wounds on his chest, neck and back.

“The suspect, aged 29, is the woman’s husband. He was arrested on Friday. Our investigation shows that they were married in a neighbouring country in 2019 and have two sons aged between two and four,” he said at a press conference at the Kedah police headquarters.

According to Baderulhisham, the suspect, who is from the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia, has previous criminal records under Sections 323 and 427 of the Penal Code, relating to causing hurt and mischief.

Following the suspect’s remand, police recovered a 24-centimetre-long weapon believed to have been used in the killings. The weapon was found in a bushy area in Sungai Petani.

“Post-mortem findings confirm that the woman died from a stab wound to the chest, while the man succumbed to a wound to the neck,” he added.

Police believe the suspect had lured both victims to the scene before carrying out the attack. “Our preliminary investigation suggests that the suspect was driven by jealousy. He believed his wife was having an affair with the male victim,” said Baderulhisham.

He also confirmed that the suspect had previously assaulted the male victim and was arrested in August, but released on bail as the medical report was not yet available.

The victims were identified as Nurul Nur Syamira Khamis, 28, who was found dead in a Proton Wira, and her friend, Ku Asyraf Ku Shuib, 30, whose body was found lying on the road approximately seven metres from the vehicle.

The case has shocked the local community, and police are continuing investigations under Sections 302 and 307 of the Penal Code for murder and attempted murder. - September 14, 2025
