Downgrades for PH firms in latest FTSE rebalancing

BANK of the Philippine Islands (BPI) and SM Prime Holdings Inc. will move to the Mid Cap from the Large Cap segment in FTSE’s latest rebalancing of Philippine stocks under its Global Equity Index Series (GEIS).

Under its September 2026 Semi-Annual Review, FTSE International Ltd. reclassified BPI and SM Prime to reflect changes in their investable market capitalization.

The latest review, meanwhile, added Emperador Inc. to the Small Cap segment.

FTSE also changed the index classification of other Philippine companies, with Converge Information and Communications Technology Solutions Inc. and Megaworld Corp. set to move from the Mid Cap to the Small Cap segment.

Bloomberry Resorts Corp. and Cebu Air Inc. will be removed from the Small Cap segment and added to the Micro Cap category after failing to meet the required investable market capitalization level.

The review also placed five other Philippine companies in the Micro Cap segment, namely Alliance Global Group Inc., Apex Mining Co. Inc., DDMP REIT Inc., OceanaGold Philippines Inc. and RFM Corp.

The changes are part of FTSE’s regular review of its equity benchmarks, which are used by institutional investors and other market participants to track and allocate investments across markets.

FTSE GEIS is a global equity index series that provides benchmarks for international equity markets. Its constituent reviews can affect the investable universe of funds and portfolios that track the indices.

The latest changes are scheduled for implementation in September.
