KUALA LUMPUR: Strategies to strengthen downstream commodity industries, the shortage of accommodation for students at public higher education institution (IPTA) residential colleges, and delays in Syariah Court proceedings are among the issues to be raised at the Dewan Rakyat sitting today.

According to the Order Paper on the Parliament’s official website, during the question-and-answer session, Datuk Shamshulkahar Mohd Deli (BN-Jempol) will ask the Plantation and Commodities Minister to explain strategies to strengthen downstream commodity industries, to increase the value added of local products, reduce dependence on raw material exports, and expand industrial opportunities and income for smallholders.

Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (PH-Bandar Tun Razak) will ask the Higher Education Minister about ongoing efforts to address the shortage of accommodation at IPTA residential colleges, particularly for students from the B40 group.

During the same session, Zulkifli Ismail (PN-Jasin) will ask the Prime Minister to outline the government’s efforts and firm mechanisms to resolve delays in Syariah Court proceedings, particularly cases involving maintenance claims and child-related claims which have remained unresolved for years.

Also listed is a question from Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias (BN-Jelebu) to the Economy Minister on the government’s assessment of the actual situation faced by the middle class, who may not qualify for assistance but are grappling with rising housing, education, healthcare and family-related expenses.

After the question-and-answer session, the Dewan Rakyat sitting is scheduled to continue with the winding-up debate at the policy stage on the Supply (Budget) Bill 2027, by the relevant ministries.

The current Dewan Rakyat sitting will run for 37 days, until Dec 8.
