Dozens of people and 20 firms could be charged over Grenfell fire disaster

  • The Metropolitan Police will ask the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to consider charges against 57 individuals and 20 organisations over the Grenfell Tower fire.
  • Files of evidence are expected to be submitted to the CPS by 30 September 2026, with charging decisions anticipated before 14 June 2027, the tenth anniversary of the disaster.
  • The investigation, described as the Met's largest and most complex, has gathered 165 million electronic files and taken 14,400 statements.
  • Potential charges include corporate gross negligence manslaughter, fraud, and health and safety breaches, following the June 2017 blaze that killed 72 people.
  • Bereaved relatives and survivors, represented by Grenfell United, expressed caution and determination, urging no further delays in the pursuit of justice, which they say has already taken too long.
