DP World, a multinational logistics company based in Dubai, on Monday said that it would be strengthening supply chain efficiency between the Philippines and Japan for Japanese homebuilder Ichijo Komuten Co.
In a statement, the logistics firm said it would leverage as well as revive a direct shipping route to improve the flow of prefabricated housing materials from Ichijo.
Ichijo Komuten is a major Japanese homebuilder founded in 1978 known for high-performance, energy-efficient, and disaster-resistant homes.
The initiative, which would be done through the JP8 service operated by shipping company CMA CGM, aims to strengthen DP World's ability to support Ichijo’s operations in the Philippines.
Launched on March 18 with the goal of boosting reliability on routes, the JP8 service marks the first regular international shipping connection between Sendai, Japan and the Philippines in eight years.
The service operates on a weekly schedule and calls at Manila South Harbour and Batangas Integrated Port — both operated by DP World’s local partner, Asian Terminals Inc.
Ichijo Philippines produces high-quality prefabricated housing components for export to Japan through House Research Development, its local manufacturer and Nihon Sangyo, the company within the Ichijo Komuten Group that specializes in the procurement, logistics and distribution of these materials and components.
"This comes amid growing demand for prefabricated housing across APAC," DP World said.
By combining direct maritime connections, the collaboration between DP World and Ichijo could help cargo move more efficiently from port to production and on to market.
DP World’s partner terminals, Manila and Batangas, were said to be supported by inland and marine solutions that help reduce congestion, improve transit times and enhance visibility across the supply chain.
In Japan, DP World also supports the domestic movement of cargo to regional outports, ensuring seamless connectivity across both origin and destination markets.
Glen Hilton, DP World CEO and managing director for Asia-Pacific (APAC), said the partnership with Ichijo aimed to solve supply chain challenges.
"By combining our global network with deep local expertise, we are delivering solutions that are efficient, reliable and tailored to their needs," Hilton said.
"The JP8 service strengthens connectivity between Japan and the Philippines, while leveraging our terminals in Manila South Harbour and Batangas as key access points," he added.
