
DEPUTY Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said today women are the backbone of society, serving as pillars of strength and resilience not only within their families but also in shaping the future of the nation.
In a heartfelt message posted on Facebook in conjunction with International Women's Day 2025, Fadillah described women as symbols of perseverance, whose significant contributions have been integral in building families, communities, and the nation as a whole.
He stated, “Women are the foundation of the ‘first madrasah’ and serve as pillars of strength and resilience for their families, society, and the nation."
Fadillah urged for the continued promotion of inclusive policies that empower women, ensuring their well-being and encouraging their progress for the betterment of the country.
“Therefore, we must advocate for inclusive policies that empower women, safeguarding their well-being and fostering their progress for the betterment of the nation,” he added.
Highlighting the theme for this year’s celebration, ‘Wanita Beraspirasi Membina Legasi,’ Fadillah noted that the day serves as a tribute to women from all walks of life, regardless of ethnicity, culture, language, or economic background.
He explained that the theme reflects the unwavering spirit of women, who continue to strive towards their dreams and create a lasting legacy of positive change.
Fadillah also acknowledged the growing participation of women in politics, particularly within the Malaysian Parliament, as a significant achievement toward more inclusive leadership. He noted, ]

In discussing ongoing issues facing women, Fadillah pointed out that challenges such as the gender income gap, social protection, health rights, and violence against women must remain top priorities for both the government and society as a whole.
As part of the ongoing efforts to further empower women, Fadillah highlighted that the MADANI government has introduced various initiatives aimed at making a real difference, with some key proposals unveiled during the tabling of the Budget 2025.
Similarly, in a separate Facebook post, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi also extended his well wishes for International Women’s Day 2025, recognising the invaluable contributions of women in Malaysia.
“Women - whether as mothers, leaders, or educators - are not only the backbone of the family but also key drivers of societal and national progress. Keep aspiring, keep building a legacy!” he wrote.
Several ministers and deputy ministers have also marked International Women's Day 2025, celebrated worldwide today, by paying tribute to the resilience, courage, and extraordinary contributions of women.
In a Facebook post, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said today’s observance is a time to celebrate women’s strength and perseverance in every facet of life.
He wished for women to continue to be blessed with the strength to pursue their dreams and move forward with confidence. “May they continue to be blessed with strength to chase their dreams, step forward with full confidence, and be valued for every sacrifice and success,” he wrote.
Fadzil also expressed gratitude to mothers and wives for their invaluable love and inspiration. “To the beloved mothers and wives... thank you for your priceless love. Keep inspiring. Happy International Women’s Day!” he added.
Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department for Law and Institutional Reform, described International Women's Day as a time for everyone to appreciate and celebrate the crucial role women play worldwide. She highlighted women’s remarkable strength and potential to drive positive change in society.
“Today also serves as a reminder for us to continue fighting and striving to empower women’s roles and rights in our efforts to build a more just and balanced world. March 8th is a significant date, especially for women, as we celebrate International Women’s Day. On this meaningful occasion, I would like to wish a Happy International Women’s Day 2025 with the theme ‘Wanita Beraspirasi Membina Legasi’,” she stated in her Facebook post.
Minister for National Unity Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang noted that the theme for this year’s celebration is particularly fitting as it acknowledges the role women play in the development of the nation.
He said, “Women today are not just complements to society; they are agents of change and catalysts for progress.”
He reflected on the significant impact women have had on the nation’s development, citing their roles as leaders, educators, economists, human rights activists, and frontline workers in various sectors.
"History has shown that women have played a pivotal role in building the nation. From leadership figures to educators, human rights advocates, and frontline workers in various sectors, women have demonstrated resilience, courage, and wisdom in facing numerous challenges. Happy International Women’s Day to all women in the country!” he added.
Deputy Minister of Communications Teo Nie Ching and Deputy Minister of National Unity Saraswathy Kandasami also extended their wishes for International Women's Day 2025.
Teo, in her Facebook post, called for collective efforts to create more equitable spaces for women, ensuring they can thrive and contribute to the nation without obstacles.
She pointed out the underrepresentation of women in political leadership, noting that only 13.5% of Members of Parliament and 16.1% of Cabinet members in the MADANI government are women.
“This highlights the need to involve more women in policymaking and governance,” Teo said.
She added, “With the support and commitment of all, we can achieve true gender equality and build a brighter future for everyone.”
Saraswathy, in her post, expressed hope that the celebrations of International Women’s Day 2025 would inspire all women to move forward with confidence, courage, and determination, becoming a source of inspiration for future generations. - March 8, 2025
