The ultimate insult…?

With the “campaign” for the Ayer Kuning by-election already in full swing, even before the candidates have been nominated, was it any surprise then that outspoken PAS election director Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor drew the first blood? (Or was it the first laugh?)

The flamboyant Kedah menteri besar must have tickled many a funny bone after apparently poking fun at UMNO Youth when he announced that he was presenting a special gift of batik with the motif of a “rocket” to the latter.

However, as expected, Dr Akmal Saleh, the firebrand youth wing chief of the nationalist party, was in no mood to wave away the jibes from the highly popular PAS leader; and as if thanking Sanusi for the thoughtful gift, Akmal promised to reciprocate the PAS strongman’s kind gesture by sending him a gift too.

Incidentally, the Merlimau assemblyman who has become synonymous with the trademark emotional outbursts and fiery verbal clashes with DAP, had “kindly” offered to send a mirror instead as a special gift to Sanusi.

Akmal expressed his hope that with that gift, the PAS leader will be able to gaze at the mirror and recall the happy moments the party savoured with DAP when both were partners in the same camp not too long ago.

In fact, in a recent Facebook video post he also asked Sanusi (0.46) whether during those heady days did PAS ever dared to admonish its partner (0.50), like how UMNO Youth was doing now?

Akmal then followed that up by posing more questions to Sanusi: Can he still recall how the Islamist party members used to happily wave the DAP flags (1.00) during election campaigns? Or how even their womenfolk used to wear purdah with DAP's iconic rocket emblem on it (1.09)?

On a more serious note, the UMNO Youth leader advised his older opponent from PAS (1.18) to campaign in an ethical manner and not resort to bad-mouthing or mocking others; according to him this is especially so during the current holy month of Ramadan (1.15), with the month of Shawwal coming up soon.

Akmal further advised Sanusi to campaign with constructive ideas and proposals (1.22) that would be beneficial to the people in Ayer Kuning and not make a fool (1.27) of the electorate there.

So, who'll have the last laugh?

In closing, he reminded the Kedah menteri besar to forward him his address (1.32) so that the special gift (mirror) can be promptly despatched to him.

For the record, as at press time, there hasn't been any response from Sanusi in his social media account to the UMNO Youth leader's “counter offer”; or maybe he realised that his action had backfired after his party’s past “sins” with its “old flame” DAP had been unexpectedly “exposed” for everyone to see - especially the Ayer Kuning voters!
