UMNO Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh suggested that the government conduct a comprehensive asset screening of all officers and ministers before appointing them to any important positions.

He said such a measure was crucial, noting that there were still members of the military who struggled to meet their basic needs in camps.

“There are retired military personnel who still take on extra work to support their daily lives. We often hear such stories,” he said.

“I urge the government that from now on, all officers and ministers, regardless of which ministry they are from, must have all their assets screened before being appointed to any important position. Enough is enough.”

In a Facebook post last night (10 January), Dr Akmal also shared media reports on the latest developments in an investigation into a corruption case involving an Army procurement tender.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has seized luxury assets worth more than RM2.2 million following a search at a residence belonging to the second wife of a former Army chief in an East Coast state on Saturday.

The search uncovered two suitcases believed to have been used to store the luxury items.

Sources added that inspections revealed 23 Rolex watches of various models, with an estimated current market value of approximately RM2 million. MACC also seized several pieces of jewellery belonging to an individual believed to be an accomplice, with an estimated value of about RM225,000.
