UMNO Youth Chief Dr Akmal Saleh, once again, reiterated that he will not back down if going to court is what it takes to preserve the dignity of the Jalur Gemilang.
In August, Akmal pleaded not guilty at the Bukit Mertajam Magistrate’s Court for allegedly causing public disorder outside a hardware store in Penang, after its owner hoisted an upside-down Malaysian flag. In his Facebook video last night (21 September), Akmal said that he was headed to Bukit Mertajam to face his charge at the court, but this time, for the case management.

While highlighting his charge at the court, Akmal questioned the lack of action against those who deliberately disrespect the Jalur Gemilang.
“I’ll go to the court back and forth for the sake of protecting the Jalur Gemilang, but those who disrespected the Malaysian flag by hoisting it upside-down are still out there.”
“Congratulations, government. The people can see for themselves,” Akmal said in his video.
Despite the action against him, Akmal made it clear that he is never afraid when facing these obstacles, declaring that if this is what it takes to protect and uphold the Malaysian flag, he will fight until the very end.
Akmal was charged under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code, which provides for a prison sentence of up to two years or a fine, or both, if convicted.
He previously led 500 UMNO, Bersatu, and PAS supporters in a 1.4-kilometre march in Bertam, Kepala Batas, after the incident where the national flag was displayed upside down at a hardware store.
Not long after that, he was summoned to the Dang Wangi Police Station for a statement.
