SPM students in Kelantan who were affected by the flood didn’t have a good rest before sitting for their exams.

An image of the students sleeping in the Surau of a hostel in Tumpat, Kelantan without mattresses and pillows went viral recently. Despite the ongoing flood, the Ministry of Education decided to carry on with both the SPM and STPM exams without any postponements.

UMNO Youth Chief, Dr. Akmal Saleh thought it was only fair to go on with the exams on one condition.

Provide comfortable shelters for the students affected by the flood before they sit for exams.

In his video, Dr. Akmal said that it’s unfair for the students who are placed under conditions where everything is lacking, especially comfort.

“I’m very sure the students were not comfortable with just a mat. It’s unfair, dear ministers. Those who are not affected by the flood could revise in comfort, but not these students.”

“If you can’t give them a comfortable space, postpone the exam”

While highlighting the comfort of the students, Dr Akmal urged the relevant ministers to look into the matter seriously and suggested that the Ministry of Education postpone the exam, if the occasion calls for it.

“If you can’t provide a comfortable space for the students, then postpone the exam until everything is settled. This is really, really unfair to the students who cannot revise comfortably. Please, ministers.”

SPM officially commenced yesterday (November 2) beginning with oral exams, and is scheduled to end on February 6, 2025.

Do you think the ministry should postpone the exam, or proceed as scheduled?
